Return to My Blog: First Quilt Journal Post

After a hiatus of more than two years, I have returned to my blog. I haven’t sewn much during that time, either. Mostly I worked on LWR Disaster quilts at the church and sewing scraps into blocks for LWR quilt tops. Finally, I have gotten the urge to return to my own work, both the blog itself and sewing.

To begin, I am going to combine those two urges by recording my quilting as I go, starting today, October 13, 2019. I will record my journey to creativity as well as the work I do in all my sewing projects: including piecing and quilting for specific purposes and people.

And so . . . I begin.

Last June, when we were visiting Peter and Nancy at “Bittersweet,” I spent some time making a table runner for them out of 2.5” batik strips. I had never done a consistent “slant” project, so there was a fair amount of figuring out what I had to do.

Table Runner, Quonny

After I finished that project, I took some time to experiment with strip piecing and inserting strips at different angles. I used just some small pieces I had in my “scrap basket.” I made strip pieces, cut them at an angle and inserted another strip at that angle, trying to align the original strips. This was difficult for me — something I will work on more.

Here are some strip piecing experiments:

Although this seems very elementary, I want to keep a record of how this develops (the scrap piecing, cutting and reassembling), but I also want to post what I am doing in all the areas of my sewing work including some retrospective work.

I’ll call this Post #1 of Peggy’s Projects!
